TRAVELING SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION INFORMATION

  

The Traveling Scholarship is for recently trained physicians and scientists from low- and middle-income countries (LMCs) interested in breast health care including low- and middle-resource scenarios and problem solving in breast healthcare delivery. 

 

OBJECTIVE OF THE BHGI TRAVELING SCHOLARSHIP

The scholarship objective is to allow young physicians from LMCs interested in developing careers in breast health care, cancer control and related clinical or epidemiological research to attend the BHGI Global Summit in Chicago, Illinois from June 9 - 11, 2010.  Special consideration will be given to young physicians or post-doctoral fellows wishing to specialize in fields related to breast cancer screening and early detection, diagnosis and/or treatment. 

 

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS

In order to be considered for a Traveling Scholarship, applicants must submit a one-page scientific abstract describing a proposed or current project related to breast healthcare or related research in an LMC.  In addition, selected Traveling Scholars will present a POSTER at the Global Summit summarizing their abstract.  

 

WHAT DOES A TRAVELING SCHOLARSHIP PROVIDE?

The Traveling Scholarship to attend the three-day Global Summit on International Breast Health: Optimizing Healthcare Delivery includes: R/T air travel to Chicago, lodging, meals, cab fare and tips.  Air travel and hotel costs are billed directly to BHGI with no cost incurred by recipient.  Breakfast and lunch provided daily at meeting and two dinners.  Expenses for other meals, cab fare and tips will be reimbursed with a per diem.

 

NOTE:  There are a limited number of Traveling Scholarships available. If having a travel scholarship is essential, your submitted abstract may or may not be approved for funding to the summit.

 

  

Applications submitted electronically through the BHGI Global Summit Site at www.bhgi.info, using the BHGI Traveling Scholarship Application Form, should submit a brief COVER LETTER answering the following questions:

a.    What are your professional goals in the field of breast health care?

b.    Why do you want to participate to attend the 2010 Global Summit?

c.    What educational training are you undertaking to become a breast health care clinician or researcher?

d.    How will you benefit by attending the Global Summit?

e.    Please give examples of professional, volunteer or leadership activities you have been involved in that relate to the field of breast health care.  Examples: individual or group activities, committees, in-services.

 

 1. APPLICANT CRITERIA

 a. Young physicians in LMCs currently in medical training or within five (5) years of completing training in the specialties of screening/early detection, diagnosis and treatment (including but not limited to the disciplines of surgery, oncology, radiation oncology, radiology, and pathology).

b.Applicant is able to travel to Chicago with no visa restrictions.

2. HOW TO APPLY FOR A TRAVELING SCHOLARSHIP

 

·         Complete the Traveling Scholarship Application Form

·         Provide a cover letter

·         Submit one typed, separate letter of support and reference from a manager, teacher or breast health care specialist

·         Submit all requested documents through the official BHGI Global Summit Site at www.bhgi.info.

·         All Traveling Scholarship Applicants must also submit a Poster Abstract Application.

Incomplete applications will not be considered.  All abstracts must be submitted via the BHGI website.
